That Time I Read Poetry In A Vacant House

I was asked a few weeks ago to be a featured poet for an event in Cleveland. I said yes because my friend and poet Jimi Remick was also on it. Then life tossed a wild pitch and Jimi had to drop off, also my GF had surgery so she is recovering and wasn’t feeling up to it, so I had to go it alone. I didn’t know the other poets, the artists, the DJ, or even the promoters.

It was a sold out show in an abandon house on the east side of Cleveland. The art and poets featured were really awesome and friendly. The crowd was diverse, mostly people of color, and women, who were all very supportive of all of us. When it came time to read, I opened the show, we packed into a room, like 50 people, I was shaking from anxiety but I ripped off 3 pieces and one blackout poem I created.

It was good exposure. I was humbled to be featured with the other two amazing poets and the DJ. I’m honored to be included and asked to perform. I hope they have me again
