The sulfur clouds
of the
cuyahoga valley
Winding river
gone drifting
by

Building America
piece by piece
The steel of
skyscraper tall
And the war
machines
Pushing out the
blue collar
grit
A backbone of a
proud city

All but gone now
Just smoke stacks
and
iron giants
Left to rust
in the
cold
Cleveland
winters

Land marks of a
broken promise
The working
class
epitaph

A eulogy to greed
No more iron
furnace blows
Just locked
fences and
no trespassing

Graffiti covered brick
monuments
Metal hard and weathered
Sitting silent
on the lake side

Only the river
remains
Ever flowing
Carrying the
memories
Deep in it’s
murky
waters

Keeping the
past
with in its
banks
